I have been attempting to paint watercolour landscapes for some time and I have found that I favour what is called a fairly loose style. A loose style is impressionist and calls for bold 'loose' sweeps of the brush. Unfortunately I can be a bit fussy so that all lf my watercolours can tend to be a bit of a conflict. I have found that if I spend a lot of time fiddling around with the painting then I usually end up spoiling the effect so I try to keep things informal. My choices of colours to use are based on advice, gleaned from reading about the landscape artists, from working with other artists and from personal experience. Limiting the palette to eleven colours gives a uniform commonality amongst the tones mixed and a more cohesive result. I enjoy watercolours, it is an excellent medium and great for experimentation with tones and compositions.
